Meissen porcelain sculptor Johann Joachim Kaendler often looked to the thousands of prints in the Saxon court’s collection for inspiration for gestures, poses and evocative figure groups, while artist William Hogarth’s prints often employ porcelain as a cipher of social class and a subtle vessel for satire. Vanessa Sigalas, former Dangremond Research Fellow for European Art and Decorative Arts, and curator of the exhibition Miniature World in White Gold: Meissen Porcelain by Johann Joachim Kaendler, will explore both the relationship between prints and porcelain and between these two artists.
