LWL Outreach at 2019 ISECS Congress

November 1, 2019

The Library was well represented at the 2019 congress of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ISECS) in Edinburgh, Scotland, in July. This conference only occurs every four years, and it draws scholars of eighteenth-century studies from across the globe. It proved to be an exceptional occasion to reach out to a broad international audience and inform them of the library’s research opportunities, collections, and programs. The LWL underwrote the grand reception, sponsored two panels, set up an LWL-staffed information table in the publishers’ room, and offered an LWL Fellows-only exclusive tour of the private Edinburgh-based collection of a close friend of the library.

Library Director Nicole Bouché, Curator of Prints, Drawings and Paintings Cynthia Roman, and Head of Public Services Susan Walker represented the LWL, attending numerous panels, speaking with dozens of researchers, gathering addresses for the email list, handing out custom-made, Edinburgh-themed, collection-based bookmarks and stickers, and generally waving the figurative LWL flag.
