The Library’s 14-acre campus in Farmington is a peaceful oasis with plenty of space for researchers and staff to observe flora and fauna. From bears to bunnies to birds, the property teems with wildlife. Catalog Assistant Scott Poglitsch has been leading staff in bird-watching, and he keeps a list of species sighted. By mid June, 56 different species of birds had been spotted. Curt Anderson and Dave Albert set up several nest boxes in the far field, and among the new residents are two pairs of Tree Swallows. We have been able to follow the development of their nestlings over the weeks. The Eastern Bluebirds and Black-Capped Chickadees also built nests but were unsuccessful in producing viable eggs this year.
